I did not start my professional career planning on qualifying to run for Lee County Supervisor Post 1 in the Republican Primary this year, but it seems I have been. Let me explain.
I was 14 when my father taught me how to operate equipment. I drove construction equipment on sites while I completed my high school education at Tupelo High School and earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree at Mississippi State University.
My father, Felix Rutledge, and brothers Mark, Felix and I operated for 48 years doing highway, bridge and street construction, building construction and public works.
My experience with Rutledge Contractors has included equipment operator, truck driver, bridge builder, asphalt laying, storm drainage, heavy construction, erosion control – even traffic control safety. I have managed projects, worked with employees and subcontractors, even assumed office manager duties after our office manager retired. I have bid many jobs and scheduled work for crews both large and small.
I am married to the former Rosemary Franks.
I am a member of Tupelo First United Methodist Church, where I serve on the Administrative Board, Finance Committee, Chair of Ushers, and Chairman of the Board of Trustees.
